But with technological advancements and every biker's need for speed, manufacturers started coming up with naked bikes over 1000cc. It sounds crazy at first, but these super nakeds serve a purpose. They are manic, fast, aggressive, and often intimidating, but they represent something that other bikes do not — they push the envelope in all aspects: touring, cornering, top speed, performance, technology, and much more. American manufacturers aren't known for producing quick, punchy naked motorcycles, but out of darkness shines the Indian FTR Sport. It's a naked motorcycle that blends Indian's flat-tracker heritage with modernity. And it is an exercise in design and symmetry. The updated FTR Sport receives a touchscreen display, improved clutch, re-tuned braking system, and a new sports exhaust, but those aren't its standout features. The 1203cc V-twin engine steals the show by producing 123.4 horsepower. Yes, it isn't the most powerful in this list, and it tops out at 130 mph, but this motorcycle is an interesting proposition when it comes to naked motorcycles over 1000cc.

The Ducati Monster is an icon of icons, despite its origins of being a parts-bin special from Ducati, but one Monster that often goes unnoticed (until it overtakes you) is the Ducati Monster 1200 S — the most powerful variant of the brand's most popular model. This motorcycle is armed with Ducati's Testastretta 1198cc L-twin engine, which pumps out enough torque and horsepower to plaster a grin on anyone who straddles it. And thanks to its lightweight design of 460 pounds, the power-to-weight ratio also makes it quite a fast naked motorcycle that tops out at 150 mph.

It had it all, the funky Benelli design, fiery exhaust note, side-mounted radiators, minimal rider aids, and a capable chassis. The engine was also class-leading for its time. The 1130cc inline-triple is evocative, offering a raw experience few present-day hyper nakeds can boast about. Wring its throttle, and you get to hear the loud, vivid exhaust note while hitting a top speed of 157 mph.

If there's one motorcycle on this list that offers a pure, cerebral experience, it's the Aprilia Tuono V4 Factory. It's a quintessential European hyper naked — fast, exciting, and gorgeous. This track-focused Tuono features a 1077cc V4 engine that produces 173 horsepower, which pushes this tiny bike to 175 mph while wheeling in almost every gear. It also comes with all sorts of gizmos: a MotoGP-derived swingarm, integrated winglets, Ohlins Smart EC 2.0 semi-active suspension, cornering ABS, engine mapping, wheelie control, traction control, launch control, and much more. The fastest naked bike over 1000cc that most people can hope to own is the Ducati Streetfighter V4 S. It is, essentially, a stripped Panigale with wide handlebars. It still features the same 1100cc Desmosedici Stradale engine as its supersport sibling which produces 208 horsepower. And with a weight of only 178 kg, the power-to-weight ratio is something to marvel at. The result is a 0 to 60 time of under 3 seconds and a top speed of 180 mph, assuming you can hang on to the bike.
